Grade 11 students raise their right hands as they recite the Claretian Oath of Responsibilities.

In accordance with the Department of Education’s K-12 program, Claret School of Quezon City (CSQC) incorporated the Senior High School (SHS) program into its Grade 11 curriculum for School Year 2016-2017. As part of the program of SHS, the school accepted applicants from public and private schools. Hence, a student from a public school can now apply for a scholarship here at CSQC. This school year, the school accepted 14 applicants which include 7 female students.

Everything is completely different from the Junior High School Unit because the SHS now offers different subjects and schedules for the students. They also have a different set of semesters and have quarterly exams. The tracks namely, STEM (Science, Technology, Mathematics), ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management), and General Academics, which are offered only to Grade 11, have subjects which are only available in specific tracks.

According to Mrs. Estela Nicodemus, the Academic Coordinator for Senior High School, “There’s no point of comparison if you were to compare the Senior High School this year from last year since they are completely different.” Also, according to her, CSQC accepted applicants from public schools to reach out to those students to give them quality education.

A Pinning Ceremony, a program that was held to recognize the students who finished Junior High School and to officially declare the start of the new curriculum for the SHS, was held last July 29, 2016 at Claret School’s Auditorium. The participants, Grade 11 students, received pins to wear on their collar as a symbol of their journey under the new curriculum. After which, they recited the Claretian Oath, promising to fulfill their responsibilities as an SHS student.

Next year, the Grade 12 will follow the curriculum that the Grade 11 has this school year. However, there is no assurance that CSQC will be accepting new female applicants for Grade 11 next year but the school will still accept applicants from public schools.

The classes of the new applicants were originally planned to take place during the night shift in a separate section but due to the smaller number of applicants, the plan could not materialize.
